On May 21, 2005, David Kendy, executive director of the International Marathon Federation, attended the opening ceremony of the China-Tianjin Huangyaguan Great Wall International Marathon Tourist Event held at Huangyaguan Great Wall. Since then, by 2014, David Kendy has held 10 consecutive opening ceremonies for the marathon tourism.
